Farewell to John and Tricia

They say the sun shines on the righteous and it certainly seemed to do that on Sunday 24th March as we all got together to say thank you and farewell to our dear friends and neighbours John and Tricia Williams. They have both been so much a part of Morcott, and indeed Rutland, for well over 30 years so it seemed only right and proper that we should hold a celebratory tea party in the Village Hall that bears Tricia’s family name.

The tables were laid and decorated, sandwiches were plated up and the good bakers of Morcott provided a fine array of delicious cakes to feed the masses. And it was masses! With almost 80 people in the hall there was chatter and laughter aplenty and barely room to move. John and Tricia were joined by their family and sat bathed in sunlight in the centre of a room packed with many of the friends they have made over the years.

Toby Walker read out a speech that Michael Seabrook, Chair of the Village Hall Trustees, had prepared but was sadly unable to deliver in person due to family illness. And both John and Tricia each said a few words, reminiscing about their happy times in Morcott, and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house by the time they had finished.

Photographs were taken by Steve Fallow and a group photo will be printed off and placed in a silver photo frame and given to John & Tricia as a memento not only of a lovely afternoon but of their wonderful decades spent among friends.

Dear Tricia and John – we thank you for all you have done for Morcott and wish you every happiness in your new home. You will be missed.
